I have to be honest and I am not really very enthusiastic about writing a post today. I think I have ‘blog fatigue’. I spent quite a lot of time preparing and writing my post for my stop on the Make and Craft blog tour that I am now suffering from a slight case of anti climax! For any of you who have missed it, my post can be found here – there is a fab crochet book up for grabs too.
Poppies
So what have I been up to since Friday? I decided that I needed something that was quite low-key and doesn’t take too much brain power. By this I mean following a pattern written by someone else! A while ago I had seen an appeal for knitted poppies and so thought this would be the time to do it.
Charity
I have never knitted anything for charity before so feel very ‘saintly’ with this project (or just doing my bit!!). For any of you reading this in other countries, in the UK, on 11th November it is Remembrance day where we remember all the people who have died fighting in war. The Poppy is a symbol of this and there are many collections taken for donations towards a paper poppy. The lady behind the knitted poppies is Laura from Tiny Stitches. The link to her Facebook page with more information on is here.
The knitting
Having got hold of the pattern and finding that, yes, I really did have the correct colours in my stash (why did I doubt it?) I got on and knitted all the parts. This was done during creatives unite (where a group of individuals all create for 1 hour. Click on the link to find out more.).
The Finished Poppy
As it is all done separately there are quite a few ends to sew in which is not my favourite job in the world but the finished item is quite impressive. I now have two complete and another one ready to sew up.
Have you ever done any charity knitting or crochet? I would love to know – I may be tempted to do some more now I have done one.
As always I am about to pop over to see the other wonderful blogs over at Handmade Monday to catch up with what they have been up to.
Just before I go I have a couple more photos of the bunting that I made for my post on Friday to share with you. Feel free to skip these if you wish. 🙂
Have a good week :).
Love the poppies!
Thank you 🙂
Love the poppies and the bunting! I know what you mean about blog fatigue, sometimes so muc can go into one single post! The blog tour is so good though, was lovely to take part, wasn’t it?
I have loved every minute of the blog tour despite the fatigue!
What a lovely idea! i always wear a poppy ( and the 11th is my birthday!) but they get ruined usually so i may make one to wear this year and just donate.
Great idea 🙂
The poppies are very cute, but I don’t know that I’d have the patience to do the assembling on more than 1 or 2. Might be a good project for me to tag-team with a friend who doesn’t knit though.
Now that is a good idea….there may well be some millage in that one for others too. hmmmmm, got me thinking now 🙂
Hope your blog fatigue doesn’t last to long :0)
Lovely poppies, they are so nice and cheerful
I am sure it won’t!! Thank you 🙂
I only managed one poppy, but need to sew it up! I have been putting it off.
Lovely to see the bunting again.
Thanks. One poppy is better than none!!
That’s what I thought!
Lovely poppies. Good idea to make them for Remembrance Day.
Sadly not my idea so can’t take any credit!
I’d love to say I had…But I can neither knit or crochet…perhaps you could teach me when you come to mine to sample my brandy soaked Xmas cake 😉
Have a good week xx
Superb idea!!! 🙂
I like your poppies. They remind me of some poppies I knitted last year from Lesley Stanfield’s book.
Thank you – maybe they are the same? I am not sure where the pattern came from.
I love the poppies – I have fond memories of poppy day – I used to help my Grandmas sell them door to door, and they remind me of her. And yes, blog fatigue – been there! You do a sterling job though my lovely – always enjoy reading x
Bless you – you are far too kind.
those poppies are gorgeous! such a lovely change to the papery ones and a kind donation of your skills to a good cause 🙂
I love the colours and varied patterns you’ve used for your bunting! It looks so pretty and inviting 🙂 x
I had not thought of myself as donating skills but I really love that concept. Thank you.
I love the poppies, I really must get one for this year!
Thanks.
Those poppies are so sweet and like you I love to make for charity when I can.
Good for you – it is a really good thing to do!
The poppies are relay gorgeous – I just love the colour of them. Hope you have a good week.
Thank you – and I hope that you also have a good week 🙂
The poppies are lovely, and a great idea too.
🙂
Well done you doing poppies, as they say – many hands make light work – so if you only do a few it will still be a great contribution 🙂
Thank you for the encouragement.
Lovely idea to have a poppy that could be worn year after year. An elderly friend of the family has a beautiful poppy brooch that she wears for Rememberence every November.
I agree although I guess that we musn’t forget to donate too.
The poppies look really effective made with separate petals. Hope you recover from blog fatigue quickly I really enjoy seeing what you’ve created. Have a lovely week.

Thank you very much for your very kind words.
Love the poppies – so wish I could knit or crochet! I have some poppy earrings and in my shop and hope they’ll be a success so I can donate the proceeds to the Royal British Legion. Hope you get over the blog fatigue soon!
Will check these out. Thanks.
Those poppies look lovely! And a really great tone of red.
Amazing what you can find in your stash!!
I love the poppies. They look lovely.
They are so cute! Good on you 🙂
Thank you very much 🙂
Your poppies look lovely and it’s lovely that you have done them for charity. I’m still working my way around all the ‘blog tour’ blogs, it’s such a busy time for me but it’s great to stop for coffee and have a good nosey.
I love all the different colours and patterns in your bunting, I think they would look good with a little tassel hanging from them as well.

That is such a good idea. Thank you.
Your poppies look lovely. I like the deep red colours. I also read your post on Make and Craft, the pendant you made looks perfect for the Autumn/Winter.
