Well I never did!

(To use a phrase my lovely Grandma used to use).

This is a post where I fear I am going to expose my naivety (again).

My Belief: Balls with the same batch number will be the same.

My latest knitting project required me to use double strands of yarn. This was for a very good reason and something that I had not done before. The wool I used was this one that I got from the Knitting and Stitching show.

As you can see you would expect them to be practically identical. Towards the end of each set of balls (I used 2 at once) I noticed that one would finish quite a long way before the other. This struck me as strange. You buy the ball by the weight (50 g in this case). The yarn looks exactly the same and is from the same lot so, in my mind at least, the length would be roughly similar. Apparently not.

This is the yarn left when its partner had finished:

Looks quite a lot doesn’t it? Well I can tell you that there is 457cm left over. Yep that is 4 metres and 57 cm!! Admittedly this was the worst discrepancy out of the 5 parings but still…. I have to say I was quite shocked.

What do you think? Have I been too naive or would you be shocked too?

I would have expected them to be the same too. I could have understood a slight discrepancy but 4m!! Must have been Friday afternoon when these were wound ๐Ÿ˜€
