When I finished my latest knitting project I realised something:
The night I finished the project I was happy to have finished but the morning after I felt quite sad as I realised that my much-loved, go-to project that I could pick up easily was finished.
Luckily for me my next project has already been decided and I picked the pattern and yarn up today. Many of you will acknowledge that I am feeling happy to have a new project, something that is particularly highlighted as I have the added excitement of not being 100% sure of what it will end up looking like. This is because, as like the last project, I will be knitting the first ever version. I love this and feel so, so privileged. It is a bit sad as it means that I am unable to share either with you for some time but be sure, I will when I can.
This is the yarn that I have just finished knitting with.
The colour has not come out in this photo, it is a lovely purple colour and it is lovely to work with so I am very excited to be working with more of this yarn for this next project.
Another thing that I like about knitting up things for the first time is that I get to try out techniques that I have not come across before. For the last project I had to wait right until the end to try out the new technique but it was worth the wait. It was the centre double decrease.
This shows you how to do it should you wish to know. It is a really great way to decrease quite heavily in an even way.
As for my next project…..well this is new for me right from the start as it is colour-work! I shall keep you informed as to how I am getting on. Meanwhile any tips for me?

I agree, I am missing the crochet blanket I made as a picnic blanket for my son. Crochet is the easiest pick up project. Can’t wait to see what you are going to be making. Only tip is when doing something new have the house on your own and plenty of time. Do not do when tired at the end of the day. Good luck, its good to challenge yourself.

I just hate that I start something and NEVER finish it. No tips except don’t ever do that!

Since I finished the quilt I made for the 1812 bicentennial project, I’ve felt a little bereft myself! It was so all-consuming. I need to get going on the next project! I’ll look forward to your progress on yours, too!

So true..I love the comparison of finishing a project and a good book. Even on a super long project like my channel cardigan, I got a little wistful during the last stages. Funny, huh?

I do love being the first at something! As to colorwork, what always gets me is the tension. I have to remember to stop periodically and give the work a tug so the stitches even out, otherwise I wind up with weird gathers and visible floats. Can’t wait to see how it turns out!
Do you hold the yarn in both hands? Having learnt this I find the tension is fairly even. (I hope I don’t speak too soon!)
I do, and it does help compared to trying to do colorwork one-handed. Still not quite perfect though…
i guess that mine is not perfect either….
